China now faces 245pc Trump Tariff: White House

The White House has announced that China could now face tariffs of up to 245 per cent on imports to the United States, marking another escalation in the ongoing trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

This new top rate exceeds previously disclosed figures and was detailed in a fact sheet released late Tuesday.

The announcement came alongside an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, initiating an investigation into the “national security risks posed by U.S. reliance on imported processed critical minerals and their derivative products.”

When asked about the 245% tariff rate during a press briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian declined to confirm the figure, saying, “You can ask the U.S. side for the specific tax rate details,” according to China’s state-run Global Times.
