Gary Ferns case updates as 70 year old brit found dead in Tenerife

16 April, 2025 15:41

The heartbroken sister of Gary Ferns, a 70-year-old British expat who vanished in Tenerife, has confirmed his tragic death after an agonizing four-month search.

The retired Manchester native, who lived on the holiday island, was last seen alive after being discharged from El Mojon Hospital—only for his body to later be discovered in another medical facility, Candelaria Hospital, in February.

In an emotional Facebook post, Elaine Schmidt-Ferns revealed the torturous wait for answers after providing a DNA sample on February 10—with confirmation only arriving this week.

“Gary had no ID on him, so he couldn’t be identified sooner,” she explained. “But why did the DNA results take months? We’ve been living in hell, not knowing.”

The family now awaits official paperwork to learn when and how Gary died.

Gary, who struggled with mobility issues from a broken hip and relied on a walking frame, was a well-known regular at Noah’s Ark bar in Puerto Colón. Friends described him as a “kind, lovely man” whose sudden disappearance sparked alarm.

One local claimed to have seen someone matching Gary’s description sleeping in an Aldi car park before he vanished—adding to the mystery.
