Michael Aldag Hints at The Killers-Inspired Music in Upcoming EP ‘The Carousel’
British TikTok star and singer-songwriter Michael Aldag is ready to make waves again with his upcoming EP The Carousel, promising fans anthemic new tracks influenced by The Killers, The 1975, Bastille—and even hints of Lewis Capaldi-style emotion.
At just 23, the West Kirby native rose to fame in 2020 through his satirical TikTok sketches, offering sharp takes on modern life from a Gen Z lens. Now, with more than 900,000 followers on TikTok and 220,000 on Instagram, Aldag is channeling his online success into music, blending relatable lyrics with euphoric pop sounds.
Reflecting on his viral journey, Aldag shared how his music and comedy evolved hand-in-hand: “I was just writing songs, watching Netflix, and doing nothing. Then I started uploading sketches, and as they caught on, I used that platform to push my music.”
With past hits like Entitled, Tonsillitis, and Ghosted already showcasing his lyrical wit and emotional depth, Aldag is turning up the dial for The Carousel. Inspired by a life-changing Killers concert at age 15, he says: “Brandon Flowers was incredible. I felt jealous watching—like, I needed to be up there.”
Aldag’s latest songs, including Three Minutes and Happy, offer a contrast between upbeat synth-pop sounds and emotionally raw lyrics. He penned them in Sweden with producer Robin Stjernberg, known for his Eurovision credentials. “We were both feeling worn down, and something just clicked,” Aldag explained. “Even if the beats feel dancey, the words are pure heartbreak.”
While comparisons to Lewis Capaldi are inevitable, Aldag embraces them with humor: “I probably sound like Lewis Capaldi with a sore throat!” Still, his vision remains distinct—crafting a cohesive, concept-driven record that mirrors the cyclical nature of relationships, much like a carousel.
With performances lined up, including a return to Chris Evans’ CarFest, Aldag is energized. “I first played it at 17 with just an acoustic guitar. To go back now, years later, with a full project—it’s going to be special.”
The Carousel is set to drop this summer and promises to cement Aldag’s place as one of the UK’s most authentic emerging voices in pop.
