The Golden State Warriors head back to San Francisco with the series tied 1-1 after a 94-104 loss to the Houston Rockets in Game 2. The game took a turn early when star forward Jimmy Butler exited in the first quarter due to a painful injury.
The injury occurred during a rebound attempt. Rockets guard Amen Thompson appeared to slide underneath Butler as he landed, causing an awkward fall. Butler immediately clutched his lower back and remained on the floor in clear pain. After playing just 8 minutes, he was helped to the locker room and did not return for the rest of the game.
NBA insider Chris Haynes later reported that Butler suffered a pelvic contusion, which ruled him out for the remainder of the contest. The diagnosis raises concern for the Warriors, who rely heavily on Butler’s energy and leadership on both ends of the court.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the media post-game with cautious optimism.
“Jimmy always says he’s gonna be fine,” Kerr said. “But we have to wait to see what the MRI shows.”
So far, no timeline has been confirmed for Butler’s return. His status for Game 3 remains uncertain, pending further evaluation and the results of the MRI scan.
Without Butler, the Warriors struggled to generate offense and contain Houston’s young core. The Rockets capitalized on the opportunity, showing resilience and controlling the pace of the game.
Game 3 will be critical for both teams as the series shifts to Chase Center in San Francisco. The Warriors hope home court and Butler’s possible return can shift the momentum back in their favor.
