BBC viewers burst into laughter after weather presenter Alexis Green mixed up her words during a live report about flooding in Oxford. The awkward moment, which aired on South Today, saw Alexis stumble over her lines while standing near the River Thames—and her hilarious reaction stole the show.
The segment began smoothly. Dressed in a black puffer jacket, Alexis explained how locals have adapted to frequent floods, calling the 2007 floods “the worst they’ve ever experienced.” But things took a funny turn when she tried to discuss climate change.
“Rainfall is expected to become heavier and more persistent in the future,” she said, before tripping over her next line: “Which is why people here have taken matters into their own homes, hou-, own, own, hands.” Flustered, she quickly corrected herself: “Basically, to protect their homes and their businesses.”
The camera then cut to a pre-recorded clip of Alexis walking by the river. But before it switched, viewers spotted her mocking her own mistake—curling her lip and shaking her head in embarrassment. Surprisingly, the blooper was left in the version uploaded to BBC iPlayer.
Fans rushed to social media to share the viral moment. One tweeted: “@AlexisGreenTV we love you as much as we love live TV.” Another joked, “Alexis Green.exe has malfunctioned,” while a third praised her relatable reaction, posting: “Her expression 😂😂.”
This isn’t the first time a BBC presenter has faced an awkward live TV moment. In 2023, BBC Breakfast host Ben Boulos mistakenly thought retail analyst Teresa Wickham was nodding during an interview—but she was actually experiencing dystonia, a condition causing involuntary muscle spasms.
The clip went viral on TikTok, but Teresa later said it helped raise awareness. “The NHS says dystonia causes painful, uncontrollable movements like shaking or blinking,” she explained. Ben revisited the incident in December 2023, calling it “mortifying” on air.
While live TV errors can be cringe-worthy, they often spark important conversations. Ben’s mix-up highlighted dystonia, a lifelong condition affecting thousands. Similarly, Alexis’s blunder reminded viewers of the unpredictability of live broadcasting—and the humanity behind the screen.
