Chris Eubank Jr misses weight and fined £375,500
Boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has missed the weight limit for his upcoming fight against Conor Benn. The weigh-in was held privately at a hotel in London on Friday morning.
Eubank, who is 35 years old, came in 0.2 pounds over the limit of 11 stone 6 pounds (160 pounds) during his first attempt. He tried again but was still too heavy.
Meanwhile, Conor Benn looked fit and focused. He weighed 11 stone 2 pounds (156 pounds), which was lighter than expected. Benn usually fights at welterweight, a lighter weight class.
Both fighters have agreed to a special rule called a rehydration clause. This rule says that neither fighter can weigh more than 12 stone 1 pound (169 pounds) on the morning of the fight. This is to make sure no one gains too much weight overnight.
After making weight, Benn shared a confident message on social media. In a short video, he said: “Show me the money.”
The official weigh-in was kept behind closed doors, meaning no fans or media were allowed. However, a ceremonial weigh-in will take place Friday evening in Islington, and fans will be able to attend.
The fight between Eubank and Benn is one of the most talked-about boxing events of the year. It is scheduled to happen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a major venue in London.
The clash is especially exciting because of the family history. Conor Benn is the son of former world champion Nigel Benn, and Chris Eubank Jr. is the son of legendary fighter Chris Eubank Sr. Their fathers had a famous rivalry in the 1990s, and now their sons will face off in the ring.
More details about the fight and final preparations are expected soon.
