Florida Businessman David Knezevich Accused of Killing Wife Found Dead in Jail Cell

A Florida businessman who was accused of kidnapping and killing his wife has died in jail. Authorities say he took his own life.

The man, David Knezevich, was 37 years old. He was facing federal murder charges in the death of his wife, Ana Hedao Knezevich. Her body has not been found.

David was found unresponsive in his South Florida prison cell early Monday morning, before 8 a.m. Prison officials tried to save him, but he died.

His lawyer, Jayne Weintraub, confirmed the death. She said the defense team was heartbroken and asked for a full investigation.

Ana Knezevich, who had Colombian-American roots, disappeared in Madrid, Spain in February 2024. She had moved there just weeks earlier.

Security cameras showed a man wearing a motorcycle helmet entering her apartment. He turned off the surveillance system. Prosecutors believe that man was David, her estranged husband.

On the same day, David was also seen on another security camera inside a Madrid hardware store.

U.S. federal agents said David had traveled through Serbia to reach Spain and find his wife.

David and Ana had been married for 13 years. They owned a tech company and had several properties in Florida.

Their relationship had turned bitter, and they were fighting over millions of dollars in real estate. Ana moved to Spain in December 2023, possibly to start fresh.

David later sold seven properties in Broward County for a total of $6.7 million between December 2023 and February 2024, according to court documents.

His sudden death leaves many questions unanswered. The investigation into Ana’s disappearance remains open.
