28-Year-Old Yazawa Yuki Arrested After Ram Attack in Tokyo Leaves Seven Children Injured
At least seven children were injured when a car deliberately rammed into a group of students leaving school in Japan. The suspect, 28-year-old Yazawa Yuki from Higashimurayama City, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The shocking ram attack in Tokyo occurred on Wednesday at around 1:30 p.m., when a passerby called emergency services after the vehicle struck a group of children near Senbon Elementary School.
Yazawa Yuki later confessed to the attack, stating, “I was fed up with everything, so I tried to kill someone, and ran over several elementary school students with my car.”
All seven children, who were walking home in small groups after being dismissed early from school, are conscious, but one girl sustained serious injuries, including a broken lower jaw. The other six children, five second-graders and two third-graders, are receiving treatment for minor injuries like scrapes and cuts.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes on the quiet residential street, just 500 meters from Kishinosato Station. One parent described the horror, saying, “The car was twisting and turning, dragging the victim along. One girl was covered in blood, and the other children looked to be bleeding from scrapes.” Another witness added, “The driver didn’t get out of the car for a while, and then the teachers dragged him out. He was a masked man, in a daze.”
Emergency services quickly arrived, and Yazawa was arrested at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack, but police say Yazawa showed no remorse.
This attack comes just weeks after a medical helicopter crash off the coast of southwestern Japan on April 6, which killed three people, including the pilot and nurse. Additionally, the country was shaken by the brutal stabbing of influencer Airi Sato, 22, in March, while she was streaming to thousands of viewers.
These disturbing incidents continue to raise concerns about public safety across Japan.
