The Sindh government officially launched the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service. This new public transport project aims to make travel safer and easier—especially for women. The service was introduced in a ceremony led by Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
In a statement on social media, Mr. Memon called the project a “historic step” toward better and safer public transport. He said this new service will help empower women, improve gender equality, and support safe travel for everyone.
A Big Step for Women and Safe Travel
The most special part of this new service is the Pink Taxi. These taxis are driven by women for women. This will help many female passengers feel safe and more comfortable while traveling, especially in busy cities like Karachi. It will also provide job opportunities for women drivers across the province.
Mr. Memon said the Pink Taxi is not just about transport. It is about giving women more control and independence in their daily lives.
“We want to create a transport system where everyone feels safe,” he said.
Normal Taxi Also Available
Along with the Pink Taxi, the Normal Taxi Service is also part of the plan. These taxis will be available for all passengers, including men, women, and families. The goal is to give the public a reliable and affordable way to travel in Sindh.
All taxis will be fitted with GPS systems, cameras, and modern safety features. This is to make sure passengers are secure and drivers are monitored properly.
Environmentally Friendly and Tech-Enabled
The minister said that this taxi service also supports eco-friendly transport. The new taxis are designed to use fuel more efficiently and reduce pollution. The government wants to shift toward greener travel solutions as part of its plan to improve air quality and protect the environment.
Plans to Regulate Online Taxi Services
During a meeting at the Transport Department, Mr. Memon also talked about the growing number of online ride-hailing services like Uber and Careem. He said the government is working on a plan to bring all these services under one system. This will make regulation easier and improve service quality for everyone in Karachi and other cities.
“We are creating a modern transport system that includes all ride-hailing apps,” he explained. “We want to make sure all services follow the same rules and safety standards.”
A Modern Transport Vision
Mr. Memon, who also serves as the Minister for Information, said this launch is just one part of the government’s bigger vision. The plan is to modernize Sindh’s transport system and make it accessible to all, especially underprivileged groups and women.
The public has shown strong support for the Pink Taxi idea. Many women said they are excited to try the service, and they feel more confident knowing there are women drivers.
