Shooting at Arizona Steakhouse Leaves at Least Nine Injured During Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

05 May, 2025 13:10

A festive Cinco de Mayo evening turned tragic when shooting erupted outside a busy Arizona steakhouse, leaving at least nine people injured. The shooting, which took place around 7:45 p.m. local time, has sparked a manhunt for multiple suspects as police continue to investigate the motive behind the violence.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as shots rang out during the popular Mexican holiday, which commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla.

One witness, Lupe Rodriguez, shared his harrowing experience with local CBS affiliate KPHO-TV, recalling the chilling moment a man was found on the ground amid the chaos.
“I heard people yelling out names,” Rodriguez said.
“His father was yelling out his name. It was pretty bad.”
Rodriguez admitted he was visibly shaken in the aftermath of the shooting.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the area surrounding the steakhouse as emergency crews responded to the scene. While police have not yet released any details about the suspects or possible motive, they have assured the public there is no ongoing threat in the vicinity.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the conditions of the nine injured victims remain unknown.

The Arizona steakhouse shooting adds to a grim tally of gun violence incidents in the U.S. this year. According to the Gun Violence Archive, a mass shooting is defined as an incident in which four or more people are injured or killed. This latest incident marks one of 97 mass shootings across the country in 2025.

Just one day earlier, on May 4, a shooting in Houston left one person dead and 15 others injured. In a separate incident early Sunday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma, one person was killed and six more injured after shots were fired into a crowd.

The Arizona tragedy also follows a deadly shooting last month at Florida State University, where 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a police officer, allegedly killed two people and wounded six more using one of his mother’s firearms.

Cinco de Mayo celebrations are typically filled with music, dancing, and food across the U.S., but the recent violence has cast a shadow over the holiday. With investigations ongoing, Arizona authorities are urging anyone with information about the steakhouse shooting to come forward.

This developing story continues to unfold as police work to identify those responsible and bring clarity to a night that ended in tragedy for many.
