Rebekah Vardy Agrees to Pay £1.2 Million of Coleen Rooney’s Legal Costs After Libel Case

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a judge was told that Rebekah Vardy has agreed to pay nearly £1.2 million to Coleen Rooney. This payment is part of a legal settlement after their famous libel battle.

In 2022, Rebekah Vardy sued Coleen Rooney for libel. But Coleen won the case in the High Court. During the trial, Mrs. Rooney’s legal expenses went up to £1.83 million. Now, Mrs. Vardy has agreed to pay £1.19 million of that amount. The payment includes £1.125 million in legal costs and around £65,000 in interest.

This agreement was confirmed in written legal documents shared during the court hearing. Judge Mark Whalan said he was happy that both sides had reached a deal after what he called a “hard-fought” case.

However, the matter is not fully over yet. Coleen Rooney is now asking for extra “assessment costs” of over £300,000. These are extra costs related to reviewing and settling the legal bill. Mrs. Vardy’s lawyer, Juliet Wells, said these costs are too high. She suggested they should be capped at no more than £100,000.

Ms. Wells also said that some parts of Mrs. Rooney’s original £1.8 million legal bill were not fair. She said it included costs for “briefing the press” and other things that should not be part of legal fees.

On the other hand, Coleen Rooney’s legal team defended the bill. They said that Rebekah Vardy caused the problem herself and should take responsibility for it.

Both Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney are known public figures. Rebekah is married to footballer Jamie Vardy. Coleen is the wife of former England star Wayne Rooney. Over the years, they have become celebrities and TV personalities in their own right.
