In a shocking development from Poland, Michal Orzechowski—widely recognized by fans as DJ Hazel—was discovered dead on May 7 under circumstances that authorities have described as “mysterious.” The 44-year-old’s body was located in a car near the town of Skępe in Lipno County, prompting a formal police investigation.
Lipno police spokeswoman Malgorzata Malkinska confirmed that law enforcement officials are actively working to determine the cause and context of the artist’s untimely death. The unsettling nature of the discovery has led officials to take a closer look into the incident, as initially reported by TVP3 Bydgoszcz.
DJ Hazel had been a dominant force in the Polish electronic music scene since launching his career in 1998. Known for his fearless experimentation and electrifying performances, he rose to prominence after securing the European Vice-Champion title at the DJ Championships in Germany.
Fans and colleagues alike have been left devastated by the news, taking to social media to share heartfelt tributes. Fellow Polish DJ Pawbeats recalled Hazel’s bold artistic style, saying, “Michał was one of the first who wasn’t afraid to blend seemingly impossible sounds, like performing ‘Weź piórkę’ with the Pawbeats Orchestra at Przystanek Woodstock. My heart breaks.”
DJ C-Bool added a somber note: “Michael… DJ Hazel, I can’t believe this… why? So long, my friend… Farewell Legend!”
Others mourned the DJ as a national icon. “DJ Hazel, a Pole, a legend, has died. He should be in national mourning,” one fan wrote. Another described him as a “true Polish patriot” whose music will live on.
Beyond his musical contributions, Hazel was a businessman—owning the Mihałufka inn in Skępe and co-owning the popular Explosion club in Borkowo Kościelne.
Tragically, DJ Hazel was also slated to perform at the upcoming Juwenalia student festival at Piotrkow Academy on May 15–16, 2025—a performance that will now never take place.
His death leaves a void in Poland’s music industry and in the hearts of countless fans who saw him as more than just a DJ, but a cultural figure whose energy and innovation shaped a generation of partygoers.
