Gerard Depardieu Found Guilty of Sexual Assault on 2021 Film Set
The actor, 76, has been convicted of having groped a 54-year-old set dresser and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of 'Les Volets Verts'
Tuesday, May 13, 2025 – Famous French actor Gerard Depardieu, 76, has been found guilty of s*xually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021. The incident happened during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”).
The court sentenced Depardieu to 18 months in prison, but the sentence is suspended, meaning he won’t go to jail unless he commits another offense.
Two Women Assaulted on Set
The two victims, aged 54 and 34, were both working behind the scenes during the movie shoot. One woman, Amelie, worked as a set dresser. She told the court that Depardieu blocked her in a hallway and groped her, leaving her terrified.
“I was petrified. He trapped me between his legs and touched me,” she said. “He looked like a madman. I didn’t know what to do.”
The second woman, an assistant on the film, also shared similar claims. Both women said they were too scared to speak out at the time.
More Allegations, But This Was the First Trial
Depardieu, who has acted in over 200 films and TV shows, has been accused of s*xual misconduct by around 20 women in the past. However, this was the first case to go to trial.
The actor has denied all allegations, including the two he was convicted for.
What Happens Next?
Although Depardieu will not serve jail time unless he breaks the law again, the conviction is a major moment in the #MeToo movement in France. Legal experts say this ruling could open the door for other alleged victims to come forward.
This story is still developing, and more updates are expected soon.
