Fact Check: Pakistan govt announce public holiday for May 16?

Govt announces public holiday on 1st Muharram 2025
Islamabad, May 15 – The federal government has strongly denied claims that May 16 has been declared a public holiday in honor of Youm-e-Tashakur, following the armed forces’ recent success under Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.
Fake Notification Circulates Online
A fake notification, falsely attributed to the Cabinet Division, has been making rounds on social media. The forged document wrongly stated that all government offices, schools, and autonomous bodies would be closed on May 16 to celebrate a “Day of Gratitude.”
Government Response: No Holiday Announced
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through its Fact Checker platform, has categorically rejected the notice as “FAKE NEWS.”
“Disseminating #FakeNews is not only unethical and illegal but also a disservice to the nation,” the ministry stated on X (formerly Twitter).
The government urges the public to verify information through official sources only, especially regarding public holidays and official announcements.
Youm-e-Tashakur Events Will Be Held — But No Day Off
While symbolic events and tributes will be organized to mark Youm-e-Tashakur, the government has not declared a nationwide public holiday.
