Sarah Silverman Claims Her Grandfather Killed Her Baby Brother in Shocking Family Revelation

LOS ANGELES – Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman has made a heartbreaking and shocking revelation about a dark family secret — claiming her grandfather killed her baby brother, Jeffrey, decades ago.

The 54-year-old stand-up star, known for her bold comedy and unfiltered humor, revealed that she had always been told her brother died at three months old from accidental suffocation in his crib. But in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Silverman said her father, Donald Silverman, disclosed a disturbing truth before his death in 2023.

“The story was that something happened with the crib, and Jeffrey’s little body slid and he got suffocated,” Silverman said. “But if you look back, there was never a lawsuit with the crib company or anything.”

The Real Story Comes to Light

Sarah explained that her father, before passing away, confided in her that he believed his own father, Max, had shaken Jeffrey in a fit of rage, resulting in the infant’s death.

“He said, ‘I always felt that he was crying or something, and my dad shook him. He shook him in a rage and killed him.’”

“As soon as he said it, it was like: ‘Of course, that’s what happened.’”

Sarah was born after Jeffrey’s death, but has long referenced him in her material. In her 2010 memoir The Bedwetter, she mentioned the family tragedy, echoing the original version of events where Jeffrey had suffocated under the care of grandparents Max and Rose while her parents were away.

Personal Tragedy on Stage

The story took on a new emotional dimension when Sarah adapted her memoir into an off-Broadway musical in 2022. Her father, Donald, attended five consecutive nights, watching the performance where a young Sarah jokes about Jeffrey’s death.

After the fifth show, Donald reportedly went backstage and shared the real story, confessing his long-held belief that his father had killed the baby. According to Sarah, Donald’s mother never held Max accountable, despite witnessing violent behavior throughout their lives.

“She watched him beat the s*** out of her son,” Sarah said. “I couldn’t ask my mom, because she was dead.”

Sarah’s mother, Beth Ann, passed away in 2015. Donald died in 2023, shortly after the death of his second wife, Janice.

In a heartfelt Instagram post at the time, Sarah shared a photo of her father, writing:

“My best pal, Schleppy – my dad, died last night. All the sisters, and grandkids surrounded him with love and singing and very dark f***ed up jokes this final week. But ultimately, he wanted to be with his love, Janice, who we lost last Monday.”

“He always said he was the richest man in the world because of his family, and he was.”

Sarah’s newest stand-up special, titled “PostMortem,” will premiere May 20 on Netflix. The special is expected to touch on themes of family, grief, and Sarah’s signature dark humor — possibly even referencing this painful personal chapter.
