22 May, 2025 17:25

A small Cessna 550 jet crashed early Thursday morning, May 22, in the Murphy Canyon area of San Diego, according to police. The crash happened around 3:47 a.m. in the 3100 block of Salmon Street, close to Tierrasanta in a military housing community.

The San Diego Police Department confirmed the incident and advised the public to avoid the area around Sculpin Street and Santo Road to allow emergency crews to respond safely.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it is still unknown how many people were on board the aircraft. The plane went down near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport during a time of heavy fog, which may have played a role in the accident.

In a statement, the FAA said: “A Cessna 550 crashed near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in California, around 3:45 a.m. local time on Thursday, May 22. The number of people on board is unknown at this time. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates. This information is preliminary and subject to change.”

The crash caused a major response from emergency services, and investigators from both the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are now working to determine the cause of the crash.

As this is a developing story, more updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
