SBP Announces Bank Holiday on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer
Banks to Remain Closed on July 1
KARACHI – May 23, 2025: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banks will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, following the public holiday declared by the federal government.
In an official statement, the SBP said: “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 28, 2025 (Wednesday), being public holiday on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’, as declared by the Government of Pakistan.”
Why Youm-e-Takbeer Is Celebrated
Youm-e-Takbeer is observed every year on May 28 to commemorate Pakistan’s nuclear tests carried out in Chagai, Balochistan, in 1998. These tests marked a turning point in Pakistan’s national defense and strategic capabilities, making it the first nuclear power in the Muslim world.
The day is celebrated as a symbol of national pride, strength, and sovereignty.
Public Holiday Nationwide
The federal government issued a notification via the Establishment Division, confirming the public holiday across Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government also announced on Thursday that the holiday would be observed across the province, aligning with the federal government’s decision.
