Trump suggests positive update coming on Iran deal
Trump: India, Pakistan agreed to full, immediate ceasefire
President Donald Trump stated that US negotiators had “very good” discussions with an Iranian delegation over the weekend as part of efforts to reach a deal preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
“I think we could have some good news on the Iran front,” Trump told reporters at Morristown, New Jersey, airport while preparing to head back to Washington after spending the weekend at his Bedminster golf club.
Trump mentioned that significant progress had been made but did not provide further details about the talks between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and the Iranian delegation in Rome.
“I don’t know if I’ll be telling you anything good or bad over the next two days, but I have a feeling it might be something good,” he added.
Trump agrees to delay EU tariffs until July 9
Trump also backed down from his threat to impose a 50% tariff on imports from the European Union next month. Instead, he agreed to extend the deadline until July 9, allowing more time for Washington and the 27-nation bloc to reach a deal.
Earlier in the week, Trump had proposed the 50% tariff, set to take effect on June 1, due to frustration with the slow pace of EU talks. The threat rattled global financial markets and escalated an ongoing trade war, which has seen frequent changes in tariff policies affecting US trading partners and allies.
