Finance Ministry: Budget Will Be Presented on Time

Federal Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal has confirmed that the federal budget for FY2025-26 will be presented on June 10, despite widespread speculation that the Eid holidays might cause a delay.

“The federal budget will be presented on June 10 as planned,” Bosal stated during an informal conversation with reporters. He noted that while the date of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting might be revised, preparations for the budget are underway in consultation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He added that virtual talks between Pakistan and the IMF will resume today, with discussions focused on relief measures for the salaried class and the industrial sector. Bosal also confirmed that “$800 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is expected to be approved on June 3.”

Sources from the Finance Ministry earlier suggested that the presentation date might be pushed to June 12, citing logistical constraints posed by the Eid holidays. With Eid ul Adha expected to fall on June 7 and 8 (Saturday and Sunday), June 9 may need to be declared a working day to facilitate key meetings such as the NEC and the launch of the Economic Survey 2025.

Given the full-day NEC meeting and tradition of a two-day gap before the budget presentation, some officials believe a June 12 budget presentation could be more feasible.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb recently signaled tax relief for salaried individuals, stating: “The government is actively working to reduce the tax burden on salaried persons.” He stressed that the upcoming budget would provide more than just fiscal figures—it would set a strategic direction for the country’s economy.
