When to Perform Eid Salah? Differences Between Eid ul Fitr & Eid ul Adha Prayer Times

04 June, 2025 14:05

Eid prayer is obligatory for those upon whom Jumma prayer is wajib. According to the Hanafi school, the Eid prayer must be performed in congregation and before noon. There is no Adhan (call to prayer) or Iqama for the Eid prayer. Here are the differences between Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha prayer times.

Difference Between Eid ul Fitr & Eid ul Adha Prayer Times

  • Eid ul Fitr: It is Mustahab (recommended) to delay the Eid prayer.

  • Eid ul Adha: It is preferable to perform the prayer early, shortly after the time begins.

This guidance on the timing of Eid prayers strictly follows the Hanafi school of thought.

Timing of Eid Prayer

As referenced in Durr-e-Mukhtar (Vol. 3, p. 60) and Bahare Shariat (Vol. 1, p. 781):

“The time of the prayers of both Eids starts twenty minutes after daybreak and continues till Niṣf-un-Nahar eShari (Zawal). However, it is better to delay Eid ul Fiṭr Salah and offer Eid-ul-Adha Salah early.”
