Big drop expected in used imported car prices - July 2025
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 today (June 10, 2025) in the National Assembly. The total budget is expected to be over Rs 17,600 billion.
The budget is being prepared in line with the IMF guidelines, so new taxes or an increase in current taxes are expected. The government is likely to introduce new revenue measures worth around Rs 2,000 billion.
However, there is good news for people planning to buy used imported cars. The government is considering reducing customs duties on imported used vehicles and increasing the age limit for these vehicles from 3 years to 5 years.
If this proposal is approved, the prices of small imported cars like Toyota Aqua and similar Japanese models could drop by up to Rs 1 million (10 lac). Some small used cars may cost around Rs 2 million in the new fiscal year.
According to the Pakistan Motor Dealers Association (APMDA), these steps will make imported cars more affordable for the public. The association’s chairman said the final announcement is expected in the upcoming budget.
Before the budget presentation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair a special cabinet meeting at 4 PM to approve the budget draft, including proposals to increase government salaries and pensions.
Later, Finance Minister Aurangzeb will formally present the 2025–26 federal budget in the National Assembly.
