Solar system five-year installment plan in Pakistan - check details
Solar panel prices in Pakistan have increased sharply after the federal government proposed an 18% sales tax on imported panels in the 2025-26 budget. The tax plan has caused concern among traders and buyers alike.
Before the budget, solar panel prices were stable. But now, the price has gone up by Rs5.5 per watt. A panel that cost Rs30 per watt before the budget now costs Rs35.5 per watt.
585-Watt Panel Sees Rs3,200 Price Hike
The price of a 585-watt solar panel has jumped from Rs17,550 to Rs20,767—an increase of around Rs3,200.
This rise means higher installation costs for homes and small businesses that want to switch to solar energy.
Traders React to Budget Shock
Many traders in the solar market have urged the government to reverse the tax decision. They warn that the new tax will discourage solar adoption at a time when people are already struggling with high electricity bills.
What the Government Says
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced the proposal during the budget speech. He said the aim is to:
Fix problems in the sales tax system
Encourage local production of solar panels
Create a level playing field between local and imported products
The government believes the tax will help boost the domestic solar industry.
