Massie Introduces Bill Requiring Congress Approval for Iran Strikes

17 June, 2025 23:19

Republican Thomas Massie has introduced a major bill that would require the US president to seek formal approval from Congress before launching any military attack on Iran.

Thomas Massie, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, has introduced a bill to limit Trump’s authority to attack Iran. The bill explicitly orders President Donald Trump to end all attacks that have not been approved by Congress.

Lawmakers say the measure reinforces the principle in the US Constitution that only Congress has the power to make war. Another similar bill was introduced in the US Senate on Monday.

Although the legislation could face a veto from President Trump if it passes Congress, legal experts say such efforts would increase pressure on the president, especially from those who strongly oppose war with Iran.

It should be noted that this development has come at a time when tensions in the Middle East are continuously increasing and questions are being raised globally about the American role due to the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.
