WASHINGTON, D.C. – US President Donald Trump described his recent meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as an “honor,” highlighting the significance of the engagement during a high-level luncheon at the White House.

Speaking to the media after meeting Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the White House, Trump thanked Field Marshal Munir for his role in preventing an escalation of conflict between Pakistan and India. “It was an honor to meet Field Marshal Asim Munir,” Trump said, adding, “I thanked him for not going to war.”

President Trump emphasized the importance of the Army Chief’s efforts in maintaining stability in South Asia, particularly given the nuclear capabilities of both Pakistan and India. “General Asim has been highly effective in de-escalating Pakistan-India tensions from Pakistan’s side,” he noted.

The President also confirmed that discussions during the meeting touched on recent developments in the Middle East. “We discussed Iran and Israel. Pakistan knows Iran very well,” Trump stated. When asked about potential negotiations with Iran, the President remarked, “It’s already too late for talks with Iran.”

On the economic front, President Trump revealed that trade relations between the US and Pakistan were also discussed during the meeting. He indicated that talks regarding a trade agreement with Pakistan are ongoing and had been part of the conversation with Field Marshal Munir.

According to a White House spokesperson, the luncheon was held in honor of Field Marshal Munir’s efforts toward regional peace. The Army Chief is also expected to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during his visit.
