20 June, 2025 11:49

Semler Scientific (Nasdaq: SMLR), a US-based healthcare company, has announced a bold plan to increase its Bitcoin holdings to 105,000 BTC by the end of 2027. This move came alongside the appointment of Joe Burnett as the new Director of Bitcoin Strategy.

Three-Year Bitcoin Growth Plan

In a press release on Thursday, Semler said it would grow its Bitcoin treasury in phases:

  • 10,000 BTC by end of 2025

  • 42,000 BTC by end of 2026

  • 105,000 BTC by end of 2027

The company currently holds 4,449 BTC, worth around $464 million at present market prices.

To reach its target, Semler plans to use equity and debt financing, as well as profits from operations.

Company’s Bitcoin Background

Semler began its Bitcoin journey in May 2024, buying 581 BTC for $40 million. It later increased its holdings to 929 BTC by August 2024, at a total cost of $63 million.

Since adopting what it calls the “Bitcoin Standard”, the company has earned a 287% return and made $177 million in gains as of June 3, 2025.

Semler says it is the second US public company to adopt such a strategy, after MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor.

Who is Joe Burnett? New Director of Bitcoin Strategy

Joe Burnett, the newly appointed Director of Bitcoin Strategy, shared his thoughts in the press release: “Semler Scientific is committed to massively growing its Bitcoin treasury in a highly accretive manner for stockholders. We have long-term conviction that Bitcoin is the ultimate long-duration asset to hold.”

Market Reaction

Following the announcement, Semler Scientific’s stock jumped over 11% on Thursday, showing strong investor interest in the company’s Bitcoin-focused strategy.
