Pakistan Denies Indian Claims of Requesting Ceasefire During Recent Tensions

21 June, 2025 12:08

The Foreign Office of Pakistan has firmly denied reports in Indian media claiming that Islamabad requested a ceasefire amid the recent military tensions between the two countries.

In an official statement, the spokesperson clarified, “We categorically reject the baseless allegations that Pakistan sought a ceasefire following Indian aggression.”

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the spokesperson highlighted that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar had clearly stated in various interviews that Pakistan acted in self-defense and responded strongly and decisively to India’s actions.

The spokesperson explained that the reduction in tensions came through the mediation of friendly nations, especially the United States and Saudi Arabia. The statement further clarified, “The sequence of events clearly indicates that Pakistan neither initiated a ceasefire proposal nor requested any third party to do so.”

On the morning of May 10, 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio contacted Ishaq Dar, saying India was open to a ceasefire if Pakistan agreed. Pakistan then accepted the offer. Later that morning, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan also confirmed India’s readiness and requested Pakistan’s formal response.

The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan maintained its right to defend its sovereignty and only agreed to diplomatic de-escalation when the opportunity arose. The statement concluded, “At no point did Pakistan plead for a ceasefire. Rather, as a responsible state, it welcomed the opportunity for diplomatic de-escalation once it became available.”
