Flavio Briatore Shares Emotional Update on F1 Legend Michael Schumacher

21 June, 2025 15:27

Formula One boss Flavio Briatore has spoken out about the condition of his close friend, Michael Schumacher, more than a decade after the legendary driver’s tragic ski accident.

Schumacher, now 56, suffered a life-changing head injury during a ski trip in the French Alps in December 2013. He was placed in a medically induced coma and has not been seen in public since.

In September 2014, Schumacher was brought home to continue his treatment privately. Since then, his family has kept all medical updates confidential.

Briatore Speaks from the Heart

In a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, Briatore shared his feelings about Schumacher’s current state: “If I close my eyes, I see him smiling after a victory. I prefer to remember him like that rather than him just lying on a bed. Corinna and I talk often, though,” he said, referring to Schumacher’s wife, Corinna Schumacher.

Briatore’s words show how deeply he values the joyful memories of the seven-time world champion rather than focusing on his medical struggles.

Blackmail Case Shocks Schumacher Family

Briatore’s comments came shortly after a shocking court case involving a blackmail plot against Schumacher’s family.

Yilmaz Tozturkan, 53, a nightclub bouncer, was sentenced to three years in prison. He tried to blackmail the Schumacher family for £12 million by threatening to leak private video footage of the racing icon.

His son, Daniel Lins, 30, a computer expert, received a six-month suspended sentence for his role in the scheme. Tozturkan had claimed they were offering the family a “business deal” but later admitted: “I’m very sorry and ashamed for what I have done. It was a very disgusting thing. I take full responsibility.”

Family Demands Stronger Justice

The Schumacher family lawyer, Thilo Damm, said the family plans to appeal what they believe are “too lenient” sentences.

“We don’t agree with everything the court said,” Damm added. “We will use all legal tools available.”

He also warned that a missing hard drive may still pose a future risk to the family’s privacy.

A Passion That Turned Tragic

Michael and his son Mick Schumacher, who is also a racing driver, often enjoyed skiing together. Both were experienced and confident on the slopes. The accident that changed Michael’s life occurred in familiar and comfortable conditions.

Since the accident, Corinna Schumacher and the family have remained silent about his condition, choosing to protect his dignity and privacy.
