PM Shehbaz calls for peaceful solution in Mideast during talk with Iranian president
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday to discuss the rising tensions in the Middle East. Both leaders agreed that the best solution to the current crisis is through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s serious concern over the regional situation. He said it is important to bring calm back through diplomatic efforts.
He also reassured Iran of Pakistan’s strong support on global platforms like the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). PM Shehbaz highlighted the importance of following international laws and the principles of the UN Charter.
In response, President Pezeshkian thanked PM Shehbaz for his support and praised Pakistan’s consistent stance. He also appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in trying to stop the conflict from getting worse.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of unity in the Muslim world and promised to stay in touch and coordinate closely in the future.
Iran-Israel Ceasefire Update
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire.” However, confusion remains, as Israel claimed Iran still carried out missile attacks after the announcement.
Trump said the ceasefire was in effect but criticized both Iran and Israel for breaking the terms. Israel stated it had paused further strikes on Iran after Trump’s request. On the other hand, Iran’s security body said it was their strong response that made Israel stop its attacks.
Earlier, Iran launched a limited missile attack on a US base in Qatar in response to the bombing of its nuclear sites.
Russia, France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia have welcomed the ceasefire after nearly two weeks of intense fighting.
According to reports, the conflict has caused heavy losses. In Israel, at least 24 people have died and over 1,000 have been injured. Iranian casualties are reported at 974 dead and 3,458 injured, according to a human rights group based in Washington.
