Two soldiers martyred, 11 militants killed in South Waziristan operation

24 June, 2025 21:25

Two army officers were martyred and 11 terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing ISPR, said on Tuesday.

According to ISPR, the operation was carried out in the Sararogha area on reports of the presence of militants from the Indian proxy group “Fitna al Khwarij”. The army effectively engaged the location, killing 11 terrorists and injuring seven others.

Sadly, Major Syed Moiz Abbas Shah and Lance Naik Jibran Ullah embraced martyrdom during the heavy exchange of fire. Major Moiz, 37, was known for his bravery and leadership in previous anti-terror operations.

A follow-up sanitization operation was launched to clear the area of any remaining terrorists. ISPR emphasized that such sacrifices strengthen the military’s resolve to eliminate terrorism, especially Indian-sponsored elements, from Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) noted a 5% rise in militant attacks in May 2025 compared to April. A total of 85 attacks were reported in May, resulting in 113 deaths and 182 injuries.

Among the dead were 52 security personnel, 46 civilians, 11 militants, and 4 members of peace committees. Civilian injuries rose sharply by 145%, while security forces injuries dropped slightly.

In security operations during the same month, 59 militants were killed, while 5 soldiers were martyred.

Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were the hardest-hit regions, with 82 of the 85 total attacks. Balochistan saw 35 incidents, killing 51 people and injuring 100 others, most of them civilians.

Despite rising regional tensions, militant groups remained largely contained. However, the increased number of casualties, especially among civilians and soldiers, remains a serious concern for national security.
