Light rain expected in parts of Karachi tonight and tomorrow
Karachi experienced heavy rain on Thursday night, causing widespread disruption across the city. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded the highest rainfall with 17 millimeters.
Other areas also saw significant rainfall: University Road received 13.4 mm, PAF Faisal Base 12 mm, Old Airport 9.3 mm, and Jinnah Terminal 5.2 mm. In North Karachi, 8.5 mm was recorded; Defence had 7.8 mm, Korangi 8.4 mm, Keamari 6 mm, Surjani Town 4.5 mm, and various other localities experienced showers.
Rain started in suburban areas like Kathore and Gadap before spreading to central parts of Karachi. Neighborhoods such as Malir, Safoora, Model Colony, and Saadi Town received notable rainfall. Defence, Scheme 33, and North Nazimabad also experienced showers. This sudden downpour raised concerns about water accumulation and possible flooding in several parts of the city.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the monsoon system will continue to affect Karachi from Friday through Sunday. Heavy rain is expected on Saturday, which could lead to urban flooding, while light to moderate showers are predicted on Sunday.
Experts point to a low-pressure system near Gujarat, India, as the cause of this weather pattern, likely bringing more rain to Karachi and surrounding areas in Sindh.
Citizens are urged to stay updated with weather reports and avoid unnecessary travel, as the risk of waterlogging and flooding remains high in Karachi and other Sindh cities.
