Heavy Rains in Punjab Claim 12 Lives, Injure 39

Torrential rains and severe weather conditions between June 25 and 28 resulted in the deaths of at least 12 people, including five children and three women, across Punjab.

According to data released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 39 others sustained injuries in a total of 28 incidents reported from 13 districts after heavy rain in Punjab.

The fatalities were primarily caused by roof and wall collapses triggered by heavy rainfall. Additionally, two men drowned in a flooded nullah, one individual was electrocuted, and two others lost their lives in lightning strikes — one in Okara and another in Khanewal.

Okara reported the highest number of incidents, with eight cases leading to the death of a child and injuries to two children, two women, and three men. In Mandi Bahauddin, a woman and a child were killed, while three others were injured. One child each died in Bahawalnagar and Faisalabad.

In Kasur, two children lost their lives and one person was injured. Wazirabad reported the deaths of a man and a child, along with two injuries. In Jhelum, two men drowned in a rainwater channel.

Chiniot saw four men injured due to a roof collapse. In Khanewal, a lightning strike resulted in one fatality and one injury. Sahiwal reported injuries to a man and a woman.

In Multan, four separate incidents left eight people injured, including women and children. Injuries and livestock losses were also reported in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Rahim Yar Khan. In Rahim Yar Khan, a windstorm caused a tree to fall, killing one cow and injuring another.

The PDMA urged the public to stay alert and avoid structurally weak buildings during periods of severe weather.
