WhatsApp to Introduce Seamless Multi-Account Switching Feature in Future Update

WhatsApp is set to transform how users manage their chats by introducing a multi-account switching feature in a future update. This upcoming tool, spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.19.10.74, will allow users to switch between different WhatsApp accounts easily — without logging out or restarting the app.

The new feature will be available under a dedicated section in the settings menu, showing all registered accounts with their profile pictures and names, making the switching process more user-friendly.

When a user selects a different account, WhatsApp will instantly switch over, loading the chat history, custom settings, and preferences unique to that account. These settings include:

• Notification tones

• Auto-download behavior

• Backup preferences

• Chat themes and layouts

Importantly, users can add new accounts without risking the data of existing ones. Each account will be fully separate and personalized.

A confirmation message will briefly appear at the bottom of the screen after a switch, letting the user know that the transition was successful.

Smart Notifications for Multi-Account Users

The feature goes further by offering custom notifications for each account. If a user receives a message on one account while using another, WhatsApp will show a formatted notification that includes:

• The sender’s name

• The account name that received the message

Tapping on this notification will trigger an instant account switch, taking the user directly to the relevant chat on the correct account.

Why It Matters

This feature is especially helpful for users who manage multiple phone numbers or devices, such as professionals handling work and personal accounts. Previously, users had to rely on WhatsApp Business or cloning apps for this functionality.

With eSIM technology becoming common — especially on iPhones where users can store and switch between multiple SIMs — this update is timely and valuable. iPhone users with multiple numbers will now be able to manage all their WhatsApp profiles from one app, quickly and securely.

Currently, the multi-account switching feature is still under development, and WhatsApp has not announced an official release date. However, the feature is expected to roll out in an upcoming update once testing is complete.
