Women Continue to Face Insecurity in Occupied Kashmir Under Modi Government

01 July, 2025 09:58

Despite the deployment of 700,000 troops by the Indian government, occupied Kashmir remains unsafe for both locals and tourists. Following the abrogation of Article 370, a growing sense of insecurity has taken hold among the people of Kashmir and visitors to the region.

The recent incident in Pahalgam, where a false flag operation was reportedly carried out, was soon followed by the rape of a 70-year-old female tourist in a hotel. This shocking event has raised serious questions about the safety and security of tourists in the region.

According to India Today, “A 70-year-old female tourist was raped in a hotel in Pahalgam.” The victim, an elderly woman from Maharashtra, was sexually assaulted by a brutal individual inside her hotel room.

Critics blame the extremist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for making India one of the most unsafe countries in the world for women. Under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, sexual assaults on women have reportedly become a daily occurrence, while the justice system remains paralyzed and the state turns a blind eye.

This latest incident has also cast a dark shadow over Pahalgam’s reputation as a safe tourist destination.

The Modi government’s heavy military crackdown in Kashmir has failed to provide protection to Kashmiris, instead imposing oppression. The ongoing brutality in occupied Kashmir is viewed by many as a direct outcome of the Hindutva strategy pursued by the ruling regime.

In light of increasing crimes against women in India, the United States has advised its female citizens against traveling alone to India, highlighting growing international concern over women’s safety in the country.
