Quad Statement on Pahalgam Incident: A Diplomatic Win for Pakistan
Washington, D.C. – The recent joint statement issued by the Quad nations — India, the United States, Japan, and Australia — in response to the Pahalgam incident is a major diplomatic win for Pakistan.
According to CNBC, “The Quad nations strongly condemned the Pahalgam incident and called for swift justice.” However, notably, the statement neither mentioned Pakistan nor assigned any blame to it for the attack.
This omission is a significant setback for India’s efforts to link Pakistan to terrorism at international forums. Once again, the international community has effectively rejected India’s allegations against Pakistan.
The Quad’s joint statement stands as clear evidence of the global community’s refusal to endorse India’s narrative. India’s attempt to associate Pakistan with terrorism, even within the Quad alliance, has failed to gain traction.
International institutions such as the United Nations continue to emphasize reliance on legal evidence and adherence to international norms, rather than acting upon unilateral accusations.
The neutral language of the statement and the deliberate avoidance of naming Pakistan is reflection of Islamabad’s successful and balanced foreign policy. In contrast, India’s foreign policy appears to have suffered another blow.
The Modi government, in its bid to malign Pakistan on the global stage, has inadvertently damaged its own credibility.
The global response to the Pahalgam attack underscores a growing recognition of Pakistan as a responsible and constructive member of the international community.
