India Faces Diplomatic Setback at BRICS Summit in Brazil

India Diplomatic Setback at BRICS
India experienced a diplomatic setback at the recent BRICS summit held in Brazil. The final BRICS declaration condemned the Pahalgam terror attack but did not mention Pakistan, which India had reportedly pushed for.
According to sources, despite India’s efforts, there was no consensus among BRICS members to include Pakistan’s name in the statement.
Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping was absent from the summit for the first time since 2012. His absence and China’s silence on the Pahalgam incident are seen as a lack of support for India’s stance.
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend in person and participated via video link, adding to the subdued nature of the summit.
This turn of events highlights the diplomatic challenges India faces in building consensus on security issues within international forums like BRICS.
