Karachi Sets Official Rates for Graves

07 July, 2025 18:59

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started the process of registering all unregistered cemeteries across the city. This move comes under the direction of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

Mayor Wahab has instructed the Director of Cemeteries to begin registration immediately. The goal is to regulate cemetery operations and protect citizens from being overcharged for burial services.

Currently, officials state that out of more than 200 cemeteries in Karachi, only 38 are officially registered with the KMC.

Mayor Wahab also confirmed that “the official cost of a grave has been fixed at Rs. 14,300”. He warned all cemetery administrations not to exceed this approved rate, adding that “strict action would be taken against those found demanding excessive fees.”

A KMC spokesperson added that the registration initiative aims to ensure transparency, improve overall management, and shield the public from financial exploitation during burial processes.
