President Zardari, PM Shehbaz Sharif Honor Martyrs of July 13, 1931 on Martyrs’ Day of Kashmir

13 July, 2025 10:24

Kashmir Martyrs’ Day is being observed today with solemnity and deep respect across Pakistan and by Kashmiri communities around the globe. Commemorative events, rallies, and processions are being held to honor the sacrifices of the 22 martyrs of July 13, 1931, who laid down their lives outside Srinagar Central Jail while protesting against oppression and tyranny.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message on the occasion, paid rich tribute to the martyrs, noting that their sacrifices marked the beginning of the Kashmiri people’s ongoing struggle for freedom. He stated that the martyrs ignited the spirit of freedom in the hearts of the Kashmiri nation—a spirit that continues to inspire the struggle today.

The President expressed deep concern over the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir, describing the region as a military prison. He condemned the systematic efforts by India to erase the Muslim identity in the region and called on the international community to take serious notice of the human rights violations and what he described as Indian state terrorism.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s consistent stance, President Zardari stated that the country would continue to provide political, moral, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until they are granted their right to self-determination as outlined in United Nations resolutions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also issued a message, underscoring that Kashmir Martyrs’ Day is a solemn reminder of the great sacrifices made—and still being made—by the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of the right to self-determination.

He affirmed that the Government of Pakistan remains fully committed to supporting the Kashmiri people and will persist in extending political, diplomatic, and moral support.
