British Parliament Members Demand Immediate Recognition of Palestinian State
London: Sixty members of the British Parliament from the Labour Party have urged the government to immediately recognize Palestine as a state.
In a letter addressed to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the MPs called on the UK to maintain its support for a two-state solution while taking swift action to recognize Palestinian statehood.
The MPs also stressed the importance of backing aid delivery to Gaza through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Citing Israeli human rights lawyer Michael Sfard, they expressed concern over Palestinians being pushed toward Gaza’s southern edge in preparation for forced displacement from the Gaza Strip, condemning this practice.
The letter demanded that the British government openly oppose such actions and press the international community to take urgent steps to protect Palestinian rights.
Meawhile, Israeli forces have intensified attacks on Gaza, killing 110 Palestinians in recent strikes. According to sources, troops opened fire without warning at a U.S. aid center in southern Rafah, injuring 34 people.
Since May, over 850 Palestinians have been killed and more than 5,000 injured at aid distribution points. Gaza health officials report 67 children have died from malnutrition amid an ongoing blockade.
In the past 48 hours alone, over 250 Israeli airstrikes have been reported, while severe restrictions on humanitarian aid persist.
