How to Apply for Ajrak Number Plate Online in Karachi – Complete Guide

Getting the new Ajrak design number plate is now a must for all vehicle owners in Karachi. The city’s traffic police have started a strict crackdown against cars and bikes with old or fake number plates. This has led many people to rush and apply for the official Sindh government plates.

Why Is the Ajrak Number Plate Important?

Sindh’s Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla says the new number plate is part of the Safe City Project. Started in 2018, this project added 12,000 CCTV cameras around Karachi to help reduce crime.

He explained that fake or outdated number plates cannot be traced properly. If the vehicle is not registered under the actual owner’s name, it becomes harder to fight criminal activity.

Key Features of the Ajrak Number Plate

• A threaded background, 3D hologram, and barcode

• Easily seen on CCTV—even at night

• Fake or open-market plates do not have these features and are now banned

• White: Private vehicles and motorcycles

• Yellow: Commercial vehicles

• Green: Government vehicles

How to Apply for Ajrak Number Plate Online

1. Visit: https://taxportal.excise.gos.pk/home/quick_pay

2. Select your vehicle type: “Two Wheeler” or “Four Wheeler”

3. Enter your mobile number and registration number

4. Enter the captcha code

5. Click “Vehicle Details”

6. Select your nearest Excise branch

7. Click on “Calculate Amount”

8. Choose “Deliver challan to me via courier”

9. Enter your name, address, and details

10. A 12-digit PSID will be generated (also sent via SMS)

11. Pay through bank, ATM, Easypaisa, or online banking

After you submit the challan, you will get your plates in about three months. You must return the old number plate when collecting the new one.
