BISP & NAVTTC Launch Free Training for Orphans and Youth

16 July, 2025 10:47

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has partnered with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to launch a Training Voucher Program aimed at helping orphans and underprivileged youth gain valuable job-ready skills — completely free of cost.

Purpose of the Program

“Helping families survive isn’t enough. We need to empower young people with skills and opportunities so they can find real work, start businesses, and stand on their own.” This initiative focuses on:

  • Skill Development in trades employers are hiring for
  • Better Job Prospects through practical training
  • Self-Reliance by reducing dependence on aid
  • Economic Growth by adding more skilled workers to the market

Who Can Apply

The program targets orphans and youth already receiving BISP support. The basic eligibility criteria are:

  • Must be a registered BISP beneficiary
  • 18 years or older
  • Belonging to a vulnerable household (orphans or single-parent families)
  • Not enrolled in any other training or education program

NAVTTC and BISP identify and contact eligible candidates directly.

Courses Offered

The program includes hands-on, in-demand vocational training such as:

  • Hotel and Hospitality
  • Professional Cooking and Baking
  • Beauty and Salon Skills
  • Plumbing and Maintenance
  • Basic Graphic Design and Computer Skills
  • Caregiving and Nursing
  • Jewelry Making and Gem Polishing

How It Works

  1. Eligible participants are selected from BISP records
  2. Training vouchers are issued to cover full course costs
  3. Participants enroll in approved training centers
  4. Training lasts 3–6 months depending on the course
  5. Graduates receive certificates and job placement help

Impact on Communities

This initiative provides free, career-focused education for the most vulnerable youth, aiming to:

  • Improve job prospects
  • Promote entrepreneurship
  • Reduce aid dependency
  • Build confidence and self-respect
  • Support community growth

Why Orphans and Poor Youth?

These groups often lack support and opportunity. The program gives them a better chance at stable futures by investing in their skills.

What Makes It Unique?

  • Targeted Outreach for orphans and vulnerable youth
  • Smart Data Use to find eligible individuals
  • Market-Driven Training for better job matches
  • Full Support from training to employment

Pilot Success and Future Plans

With around 1,000 youth enrolled in the initial phase, early signs are positive. Some have already started working in hotels, salons, plumbing, and other fields.

Future developments include:

  • More course variety
  • Private sector partnerships
  • Micro-loans for business startups
  • A digital job-matching platform
