Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Corruption Probe Intensifies as NAB Freezes Billions in Assets

16 July, 2025 11:09

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has upgraded its inquiry into the mega Kohistan corruption scandal in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a formal investigation. Recent actions by NAB have uncovered shocking new details, including luxury vehicles, properties, and significant financial irregularities.

Official sources report that assets worth approximately 2.5 billion Pakistani rupees have been seized so far. This includes more than 100 million rupees in cash, foreign currency, and over three kilograms of gold. Additionally, 73 bank accounts containing over 500 million rupees have been frozen across various commercial banks.

NAB has confiscated 77 luxury vehicles connected to the case. Moreover, 109 properties spread across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Mansehra have been taken into custody. These properties comprise farmhouses, commercial plazas, commercial plots, houses, shops, food courts, flats, penthouses, and agricultural land with a combined estimated value of around 1.7 billion rupees.

According to official sources, preparations are underway for the possible arrest of key figures involved in the scandal within the next 24 to 48 hours. The fraud was executed with elaborate planning and clear collusion between government officials, greedy contractors, bank officials, and other accomplices.

The accused operated with remarkable boldness, siphoning billions of rupees from the national treasury without detection by financial oversight agencies.

In a major development, NAB has arrested contractor Muhammad Ayub, a central figure in the Kohistan scandal. It was revealed that over three billion rupees were transferred into his accounts. Ayub is also accused of purchasing a house for Azam Swati using corruptly obtained funds.
