Heavy monsoon rains since 26 June have led to the tragic deaths of 216 people across Pakistan, with 13 more fatalities confirmed in the past 24 hours alone. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 12 of these recent deaths occurred in Punjab, while one was in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including four children and three women.
So far, the breakdown of fatalities by region is as follows:
Punjab: 135
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 42
Sindh: 21
Balochistan: 16
Islamabad: 1
Azad Kashmir: 1
Among the deceased, 75 were men, 40 women, and 101 children.
In addition to the deaths, 20 new injuries were reported in the last day, bringing the total to 582 injured since late June. Of the recent cases, 16 were in Punjab, 3 in Gilgit, and 1 in Azad Jammu & Kashmir. So far, the injury toll includes 227 men, 163 women, and 192 children.
The NDMA attributes most casualties to building collapses, flash floods, lightning strikes, landslides, and drownings. The severe weather has also destroyed 779 homes and claimed 195 livestock since 26 June.
Authorities continue relief and rescue efforts, urging the public to remain cautious and follow all safety advisories during the ongoing monsoon season.
