Who Is Charley Marlowe? TikTok Star and BBC Radio 1’s Fresh Voice in 2025

22 July, 2025 19:50

Charley Marlowe, the Liverpool-born social media sensation and rising broadcaster, has officially joined BBC Radio 1 as part of the station’s summer 2025 presenter shake-up. Best known for her comedic charm and relatable TikTok videos, Charley’s transition into mainstream media has been nothing short of impressive.

Who Is Charley Marlowe?

Charley Marlowe is a British presenter, comedian, and content creator who rose to prominence on TikTok, where she now boasts nearly 700,000 followers and over 45 million likes as of July 2025. Her warm personality, natural humour, and unapologetically queer perspective have earned her a loyal fan base.

Charley made waves as the voiceover artist for BBC Three’s “I Kissed A Girl”, the UK’s first dating show focused on queer women. Her work on the show was praised for its authenticity and light-hearted tone, and she often refers to herself lovingly as “a lucky little lesbian” for landing that gig.

New Role at BBC Radio 1

Charley Marlowe has been tapped to host the Early Breakfast Show on Fridays from 5am to 7am, starting in August 2025. This move is part of a broader revamp of the station’s lineup this summer.

Excited about the role, Charley shared that she’s “absolutely buzzing” to join the BBC airwaves, cheekily adding that listeners can expect to hear “as much Jane McDonald and Kylie Minogue as the BBC will allow,” along with plenty of show tunes and Madonna tracks.

Broadcasting Journey

Charley’s broadcasting career has taken off since she first found fame online. She was part of the BBC’s presenting team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, further solidifying her place as a versatile and trusted media personality.

Personal Life

In a recent appearance on Jessie Ware’s “Table Manners” podcast, Charley opened up about her relationship. She revealed that she met her girlfriend on Instagram after a playful message: “She messaged me saying people say I look like Jane McDonald,” Charley laughed, admitting she was intrigued from the start.

Representation and Influence

Charley is part of a growing group of LGBTQ+ voices bringing inclusivity and representation to mainstream British media. Through her work, she has become an important figure for queer audiences looking for authenticity, humour, and visibility.

Radio 1 Schedule Changes

Charley’s appointment is just one part of BBC Radio 1’s broader changes:

  • Jamie Laing is stepping back temporarily from the “Going Home” show.

  • Sophie Habboo, his wife, joined him during the previous shake-up.

  • Greg James’ Breakfast Show now airs for an extra half-hour from July 21 to September.

  • Tskenya Frazer is co-hosting “Life Hacks” with Lauren Layfield, while Yinka Bokinni will fill in for Tskenya in August.
