Dr Aafia Siddiqui Special Committee
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Dr Aafia Siddiqui, saying there has been no negligence in her case. He announced that a special committee, led by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, has been formed to pursue the matter further.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He assured her that the committee will stay in close contact with the family and provide all possible legal and diplomatic assistance.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that the government had previously offered both diplomatic and legal support in the case and will continue to do so. He also mentioned that he had written a letter to former U.S. President Joe Biden to raise concerns over Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s situation.
The move signals renewed efforts by the Pakistani government to engage with U.S. authorities and advocate for Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s case through formal channels.
