PTI In Big Trouble: 196 Party Members Sentenced in May 9 Cases Including Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Faisalabad has delivered its verdict in three separate May 9 cases, sentencing a total of 196 individuals, including key political figures such as Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza.

168 Accused Receive 10-Year Jail Terms in Two Cases

In the verdict of the first two May 9 FIRs, the special court handed 10-year sentences to 168 individuals involved in attacks on sensitive installations. Among them were PTI leaders Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul. National Assembly member Sahibzada Hamid Raza was also sentenced to 10 years.

108 Convicted in Intelligence Agency Attack Case

In a case involving an attack on a sensitive agency, out of 185 accused, 108 were found guilty and sentenced. The court acquitted the remaining individuals.

Ghulam Muhammad Abad Case: 60 Sentenced, 7 Acquitted

In a separate May 9 case registered at Ghulam Muhammad Abad Police Station, 60 out of 67 accused were sentenced while 7 were acquitted. Notably, PTI’s Junaid Afzal Sahi received a three-year prison sentence—the lowest among all.

Zain Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, and Others Acquitted

The court acquitted Zain Qureshi (son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi), Fawad Chaudhry, and Khayal Kastro due to lack of evidence.

Third Case: 28 Convicted, 4 Acquitted

In a third case related to the May 9 events, the court sentenced 28 individuals to 10 years each while acquitting four others. This case was registered at Faisalabad’s Civil Lines Police Station, with 32 individuals on trial out of 107 initially named.

Earlier Verdict

Just days earlier, the ATC had sentenced other PTI leaders, including Ahmed Chattha, Ahmed Khan Bhachar, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, to 10 years in jail for their involvement in the May 9 incidents.
