PDMA Issues Flood Advisory as Monsoon Rains Expected to Intensify

11 August, 2025 14:56

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood advisory in anticipation of rising water levels in the province’s rivers due to another spell of monsoon rains.

A PDMA spokesperson stated that the seventh monsoon spell is forecast to begin on August 13, potentially resulting in a significant increase in water inflow in rivers across Punjab. The advisory highlights the risk of flooding in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, along with nearby streams and nullahs.

Commissioners, deputy commissioners, and all relevant departments have been placed on high alert. PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed authorities to ensure the evacuation of residents and livestock from riverbank areas. He also announced a ban on swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds.

Citizens are advised to contact the PDMA emergency helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.

It is worth noting that hundreds of people lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the country last month.
