14 August, 2025 00:04

Askole: Gul Noor Tambet has made history by becoming the first Turkish woman to reach the top of K2, the world’s second-highest mountain.

According to a press release, Gul reached the 8,611-meter summit at 4:00 pm on Monday, August 11. She arrived in Pakistan in June and first climbed Tirich Mir before attempting K2. Despite bad weather in July that forced many climbers to turn back, she continued her climb and succeeded.

Gul has an impressive climbing record. She has completed the Seven Summits and climbed over 30 high mountains in countries like Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Nepal, Argentina, and the United States. She was also the first Turkish woman to climb Mount Everest.

Gul started climbing at the age of 17. Along with being a professional mountaineer, she works as a marketing professor at San Francisco State University in the United States.
