Officials say they are working carefully, given the age and fragile structure of the monument.
No confirmed casualties have been reported yet, but rescue efforts are ongoing.
A National Heritage Site at Risk
Humayun’s Tomb is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in India. Built in the 16th century, the monument attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Authorities are concerned about the damage to the structure and are expected to launch a detailed assessment soon.
Security and Safety Questions Raised
Following the collapse, questions are being raised about the maintenance and structural safety of the tomb. Experts say that extreme weather conditions, aging material, or ongoing restoration work might have played a role in the collapse.
An official investigation is expected to determine the exact cause.
What Happens Next?
Rescue work will continue until the site is declared safe.
Structural engineers are expected to inspect the remaining building.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will likely issue a statement soon.
