PTA Alerts Citizens About SIMs Registered Under Their Names
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh advisory urging mobile users to remain alert and ensure that no unauthorized SIM card is issued under their name.
According to PTA, “stolen or misused identity information can lead to the illegal issuance of SIMs, which may be exploited for fraudulent activities, terrorism, or other criminal purposes.”
The authority highlighted that such misuse not only creates major security risks but can also result in legal consequences for the original SIM owner.
To counter this threat, citizens have been advised to verify the number of SIMs registered under their CNIC by visiting cnic.sims.pk or sending their CNIC number (without dashes) via SMS to 668.
In cases where unauthorized SIMs are detected, PTA has instructed users to immediately contact their service provider and request cancellation.
The regulator has reiterated its commitment to ensuring digital safety, stressing that public vigilance is essential to protect personal data and mobile connections from criminal misuse.
