17 August, 2025 11:09

Lodhran — At least two passengers were killed and 22 others sustained injuries when six coaches of the Awam Express derailed near Lodhran Railway Station early Sunday morning, officials confirmed.

The passenger train was traveling from Lahore to Karachi when the accident occurred. Rescue 1122 teams, along with police, promptly arrived at the scene and launched a large-scale operation to evacuate passengers. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, while three critically wounded individuals were transferred to Bahawalpur for advanced medical care.

Rescue officials identified one of the deceased as 32-year-old Waqas, a resident of Khushab.

To facilitate stranded passengers, railway authorities arranged an alternative train to continue the journey toward Karachi. Restoration work on the affected track has begun, and an official inquiry into the derailment has been initiated.

The cause of the accident remains undetermined. However, the incident comes amid growing concerns over Pakistan’s deteriorating railway infrastructure.
